CROSSING FROM CHABOD HUT TO VITTORIO EMANUELE HUT
From June to the end of September
Gran Paradiso is the only 4000 meters peak entirely in Italy. Located between Savaranche valley, Cogne valley and Orco Valley it is immersed in the uncontaminated and wild nature of the homonymous National Park.
Our proposal includes the crossing from Chabod Hut, on the north side of the Levaciau Glacier in front of the steep north wall, to the regular route of Vittorio Emanuele Hut. A full itinerary to visit the whole massif.
Travel Program
Climb to Chabod Hut
Meeting with the Mountain Guide and transfer to Savaranche Valley. From Pravieux parking, 1780m, starts the trail, first along a beautiful forest of larch then through grasses to the Chabod Hut, 2750m. Dinner and overnight.
Walk up 980 m - 3 hours
Climb to the top and crossing
Departure around 5:00 a.m. walking on an easy trail up to the slopes of the Levaciau glacier. Once we’ll put the crampons on and after being roped we will walk up along the glacier crossing “ Schiena d’asino” , “Becca di Moncorvè” 3850m and the upper col at 4000 meters. The last 60 meters are along an easy ridge and in a few steps we will be standing close to the Madonnina on the top. The way down is along the regular route of Vittorio Emanuele Hut. From there a beautiful trail leading us to Pont and to the car.
Walk up 1311m - Down 2100 m – 9/10 hours

TECHNICAL INFO: This itinerary has not particular difficulties. The approach to the hut is very easy following a good trail, from there is along an easy glacier. Only the last few meters are along some rocky steps up to grade II°. Anyway, it should not be underestimated because of its quite important length.

THE PRICE INCLUDES: Support and assistance of a U.I.A.G.M. Mountain Guide, all the technical equipment in common use, rental of technical equipment if you need (harness, crampons, ice axe, helmet), logistics and reservation to the Hut.
THE PRICE DOES NOT INCLUDE: Transfer to Pont Val Savaranche, half board at the hut. Guide’shalf board will be shared by participants, injury insurance
